AMC Theatres phone app accepts Dogecoin, Shiba Inu and more

AMC Theatre CEO Adam Aron announced that the iOS and Android mobile apps now accept cryptocurrency payments through collaboration with BitPay, a bitcoin payment service provider.

AMC Theatres, an American pro-crypto movie theatre chain, has upgraded its mobile app features to accept Dogecoin (DOGE), Shibu Inu (SHIB), and other cryptocurrencies as payment in the United States.

On November 12, 2022, AMC Theatres began accepting crypto payments, enabling customers to buy movie tickets online using Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), and Litecoin (LTC).

Adam Aron, the CEO of AMC Theatres, assured users in a tweet on Jan. 6, 2022, that the meme tokens DOGE and SHIB would be included by March. Despite a slight delay, Aron’s team conveyed.

Aron revealed in the statement that the AMC Theatres iOS and Android mobile apps could accept cryptocurrency payments through cooperation with BitPay, a bitcoin payment service provider.

The names of the other recently backed cryptocurrencies, on either side, are yet undisclosed. Users in the United States must download the updated version of the mobile app to make use of the feature.

Nium, a Singapore-based cross-border payments service, has partnered with BitPay to create an API-based solution that allows businesses to begin accepting crypto payments, initially with BTC and ETH.

Crypto payments made through BitPay are processed and delivered to merchant accounts in US dollars or other fiat currencies the next working day, as previously stated.
